Searching for Purpose: Self-portraits in Quarantine
At the start of the shelter in place orders, I decided to venture into the world of self-portraiture. I wanted to capture the moment and my moods as a way to start processing everything I was dealing with. My mind felt cluttered with all of the change occurring, and I truly had to sift through the mess to find my purpose, specifically when it came to my photography and creative endeavors.
To keep me encouraged, I told a few friends, and they sent me moodboards (basically a presentation to provide me with some direction for those who are not familiar) to give me goals. Something to look at and aim for.
I’ve shared some of my favorite outtakes below. Let me know what you think in the comments!
This first set was taken in Flint before I went back home to California for the first 2 months of quarantine.
This next set was inspired by Steven Jones’ moodboard: “Simple Silence.”
The following were influenced by Vonecia Carswell’s moodboard entitled: “Home Sweet Comfort” and another made by S. Bola Okoya aka Primo for me.
P.S. If you follow me on instagram, please share your favorite image or two in your stories and tag me so I can see!!
Much love.
