Weekly Portrait #9: Be
I want to encourage you to BE.
Be present. Whatever that means to you. Whether you're studying all day everyday (ME), working an 8-5 job that doesn't thrill you, feeling like you are not where you want to be, starting something new, grieving the death of a family member or friend...where ever you are in life today. Be present. Feel the emotions, acknowledge them and work through them. Learn whatever you can from your experience today. What you go through today can give you so much wisdom for whatever you will go through 6 months from today, but more importantly, you will be able to help someone else who is in a similar position down the road. So be present.
Be bold. God only made one of you. You are one of a kind. Only you have your perspective, your vision. You are a gift. "Honor the gift." Bless others with your gifts. Be patient as you discover your gift. Be bold. You have so many hidden talents waiting to be discovered. You have so much to give the world. So be bold.
Be kind. Be kind to yourself. To your family. To your friends. To people who do not share your perspective on life. To people who are hurt. To people who are angry. To people who are insecure. To people who don't know their biases. To people who are tired. To people who are working hard to bring about change. To people who think they are above reproach. Be kind.
As Black History Month comes to an end, this is also a reminder to my beautiful Black people, that we are not limited to a month. February just gives us a bigger stage show where we've been and who we are. We are making history every month. Share of yourself and be you.
Shoutout to my friend Temi who is in dental school KILLING IT. Thanks for working with me :)
I know I said a lot. Comment below if you want to talk about things I said (all from my head). I want to know how this made you feel and what came to mind.
